As a new wife, I wasted a lot of time doing nothing because I was constantly overwhelmed by the task at hand. It stagnated me to the point that things would not get done until my husband jumped in to do them. I pretended, for a long time, that this was okay. I rationalized that in marriage, we were both responsible for taking care of the home.

He loved me so he didn’t complain about it…out loud that is. This enabled me to keep using ‘feeling overwhelmed’ as an excuse for not getting things done.

Know what I’m talking about?

Boy how things have changed! I’ll spare you the details, because I’ve shared my story here before. If you’re new to the blog and want to see just how messy things got, you can read the full story {here}.

How did things change?

One step at a time.

When things feel overwhelming and you don’t know where to start, just do the next thing. Procrastination will only delay the process. Do something. Anything. Just start moving.

Even if it’s inch-by-inch, sort through your mess. Soon enough, you will see the mountain of anxiety begin to diminish. You can do this!

Need some tips or ideas? Check out our HOME MANAGEMENT archives. There are tons of posts available to help you with this.

Sarah’s Tips:

  • Work one room at a time.
  • Get rid of the trash.
  • Get rid of half the toys.
  • Set the timer for 15 minutes and go at it.
  • Just get moving!
  • Envision the big picture.
  • Get off the computer.
  • Keep your eyes on the goal.

Today’s Challenge (from 31 Days To Clean)

Mary Challenge:  Light a candle, find a cozy spot somewhere quiet…envision the big picutre. Think about your home and what you want it to be. Do you want it to be a place of refuge? Inviting? Warm? Fun? Picture your home in all its clean and organized glory, and then burn the image into your brain and heart. Now grab your journal (or notebook) and write down your big picture. Ask God to help you physically create the vision for your home life.

Martha Challenge:  Living Room- Clean your window treatments and wash the inside of your windows.
