Revolutionary Women: Touched By Jesus Resulting In Radical Change! -Part 1

About two weeks ago, I had the wonderful privilege of speaking at my church’sTouch With Hope Ministry. This awesome ministry led by Sister Jessica Gonzalez, serves to mentor and walk alongside single mothers on their journey. Although I was invited to share and impart into their lives, it was I, who left there leaving blessed by these beautiful, strong, and God-appointed women!

So let me share with you a bit of what I shared with them. Although I spoke to a group of single mothers, I believe my story is just as relevant for the wife and mother, both young and old, who is ready to make the changes necessary to live the abundant life God has for them.

It’s for the {Revolutionary Woman} touched by Jesus resulting in radical change!

SO LET ME BEGIN WITH A LITTLE STORY:

I want to share with you a story about a little girl. She was a smart girl. A good girl. But she faced challenges. Her father abandoned her and her two sisters, leaving her mother to be a single mother. She grew up without the father figure she so desperately needed. She dreamed of her ‘family’ in the future. She was going to be different. Oh yeah, she wasn’t going to split a family.

This little girl actually looked out the window at night, up into the dark, star- filled sky. She said that little thing that all little romantic girls say, “Star light, Star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may. I wish I might. Have that wish I wish tonight.”

And she’d wish. For that man who would love her and her future children. She wished for a real family.

This girl, for many reasons, mostly bitterness and anger, ran away at 16. When she should have been home learning the responsibilities and skills necessary as a young lady, she was out in the streets. Soon enough she got pregnant. And you know how the story goes, it didn’t work out. And so, she, just like her mother, found herself living the life of a single parent.

Just like many of you here, I understand this girls dreams. I understand her pain. I understand her struggles, and her frustrations.

This young single mother was me.

WE ALL HAVE ‘STUFF’ THAT GOT US HERE.

Perhaps mess ups, failures, betrayals, marriages and relationships gone bad, or foolish choices. Or maybe, just maybe, you did everything right. Maybe you played by the rules. Unlike me, you had a great relationship filled with love. But then life happened, and you experienced the death of your spouse. Regardless of how we got here, it’s all done with. It’s over. You can’t go back and change things.

I may not understand the intricacies of your life. I may not know your full story. There may be many similarities between my story and your story, or perhaps they are as different as night and day.

But what I can tell you is that I was exactly where you are today. I know the challenges that a single mother encounters daily. I felt overwhelmed by all the responsibilities. I was scared about our future. I wanted so bad to have a family. I worried if anyone would be able to love me and my son (because we were a package deal). I dealt with the finances, the cooking, the cleaning. I couldn’t take a sick day because there was always someone waiting on me. From morning breakfasts, to runny noses, to homework helper… I had to do it all!

It is an enormous, arduous task to take up. No one pats you on the back. You feel like you’ll never get ahead. You rarely get a thank you and quite frankly, it can be extremely exhausting.

I SAY ALL OF THAT TO SAY THAT…

I stand here not as a wife, living the good life, looking down at your single-mother (or difficult) situation. Instead, I stand here as a woman who has been there.

A woman who has fought to push through barriers and obstacles that have at times left me wounded, and gasping for breath.

I stand here as a woman who understands that your assignment is one of the greatest, most important, assignments there is. I stand here to applaud you for being here. I commend you for not giving up and not giving in.

I celebrate you for all the unnoticed and unappreciated things you do every day for you children. I stand here to give you a Touch of Hope. I stand here to encourage you and empower you.

DO NOT ALLOW YOUR SEASON IN LIFE TO DEFINE YOU.

You are not tagged by the label of single mother (or any other label for that matter).

You are woman of God….. a woman with a High Calling of God!!

So that you can understand my story, join me tomorrow as I share with you my own pursuit. Allow me to share with you where God has taken me out of. Perhaps then you will understand why I am so passionate about living a life {In Pursuit} of God and His abundance!

It wasn’t always like this. Tomorrow I will share with you my very embarrassing story

There is hope for your life. Because we are {Revolutionary Women} touched by Jesus, resulting in radical change!

Sending my love and blessings,

Darlene
