As Long As There Is Life {There Is Hope}

I was walking into the dining room from the kitchen when I glanced at my bookshelf and saw my plant. “Oh my goodness, Sunshine,” I said to my daughter. “Look at the plant. What’s wrong with it?”

I pulled it down from the shelf. All the leaves were limp. It was quite a sight. Dark, green, seemingly healthy leaves – totally limp. I began to investigate. I lifted up the leaves to check the soil. It was rock hard.

“But I don’t understand, the little sign said very little water and moderate light.”

I quickly grabbed some water and pouring it carefully, I wet the soil. Then I sat and watched. I couldn’t help but think,

I understand. You look exactly like I feel.”

All of a sudden the leaves started shaking. I assumed they were quenching their thirst. And that’s when I sent a little prayer to heaven. “Lord, quench my thirst. Let your living waters flow through this parched land. Bring healing.”

Run To God

When you’re feeling discouraged, run to the One who is able to encourage you. When your spaces are feeling dry and your weariness is more than you can handle, run to the One whose living waters are able to refresh your soul.

As Long As There Is Life

The next morning, I looked at the plant in amazement. She was back to her beautiful self. Her leaves were reaching out high. They were strong. There was no trace of yesterday’s weaknesses. I’m not one of those women with a green thumb. As a matter of fact, I usually kill plants. So what made me think I could still save this one?

I knew there was still life in it. It wasn’t completely withered up and dry. And as long as there is life, there is hope.

Same is true for us. If we woke up this morning with the breath of life and with blood flowing through our veins then there is still hope. Regardless of the situation, regardless of the discouragement God is able to restore.

He  [Jesus] cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Rivers of living water will brim and spill out of the depths of anyone who believes in me this way, just as the Scripture say,” (John 7:38).

  1. I loved this prayer, “Lord, quench my thirst. Let your living waters flow through this parched land. Bring healing.” Sometimes we need reminded that only He can quench that thirst. Thank you for the reminder today!
