{Choose Joy} Dwell On The Promises of God (& Free Printable)

I have tried to search for words to explain what is going on inside of me right now. But I can’t find anything more substantial than, “I am so excited!”.

It’s difficult to put into the words the way the Spirit of God moves and satisfies. It’s difficult to explain the way one can actually find joy and peace in the midst of very uncertain times. I mean, call me crazy, but sometimes I can’t even talk about it, because I begin to laugh and smile while I’m talking.

And not one of those, ‘I’m happy grins’, but one of those, ‘oh-my-goodness-my-cheeks-hurt-from-smiling-and-people-must-think-I’m-so-weird-or-that-I’m-laughing-at-them’ kind of smiles.

Seriously, if I was someone else, I’d probably be annoyed with myself. Because that’s what happens isn’t it? We usually don’t know how to choose joy and peace, so we get upset with anyone else who isn’t just as miserable as we are.

Choose Joy

Since my depression after our house fire back in 2010, I made a conscious decision to choose joy. I made a deliberate choice to dwell on the promises of God and not on my difficult circumstances. I’ve chosen to be a Romans 12:2 woman.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.                                (Romans 12:2)

I encourage you my friend. Choose joy. Choose to walk out a Philippians 4:8 lifestyle.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.  (Phil. 4:8)

What Does That Look Like?

Two weeks before Christmas, my husband found out he’d be out of work by the end of January. Last night, we found out that his last day of work will be next Friday.

Immediately anxiety, fear, worry, and doubt tried to take over. We are homeowners. We have children. What will happen next?

The lies of the enemy bombarded us:

  • Where’s God now?
  • Look at that, did God really say? Because if He did, this wouldn’t be happening.
  • You will be out in the street.
  • You won’t be able to provide for your children.
  • You won’t be able to get another job.
  • You’re done now.
  • See, God doesn’t really care.
  • Is God good now?
  • Is He good over your life, even in this?

My friend. This is nothing new. We have been through numerous lay offs during our last 7 years of marriage. Life happens. The economy changes. Things happen.

The lies of the enemy are not new. We heard them before. He asked the same questions in the Garden of Eden. He taunted Job with the same thing. He used the exact verbiage in the wilderness as he tempted Jesus. It’s always the same.

Is that what God really said?

Will God really do what He said He would do?

Are you really a child of God?

And because life is difficult enough and I refuse to argue my position, or entertain the lies of the deceiver, (who by the way has absolutely no truth in him) then I choose joy.

…He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.  (John 8:44)

I immediately got on my laptop and began searching the Scriptures for the promises of God’s care and provision over our lives. I created some Memory Verse Cards, printed them out, laminated them, and popped them on a ring.

Last night when my husband shared his heart, I gave him the {Promises of God} and said, “Instead of dwelling on the ‘I can’t believe this is happening’ and on the ‘What ifs?’ Here, I made this for you,” (and I handed the Memory Verse Cards to him) “Dwell on the Promises of God.”

If God is Whom He says He is, if He is the God I believe He is, then it’s not over until He says it’s over. As a matter of fact, He already won the victory. So He wins! I win!!

And so, I will not succumb to fear and anxiety. Instead, I will lean into the One who holds my world in His hands. I will bend in submission to His leading during times like this.

I will choose joy, because ultimately I choose Him; and here, in His hands, I am safe. I am protected.

A Gift For You

I know we’re not the only ones going through a financial hardship. And I know that sometimes when readers come to a blog, all they see is all the ‘good’ things and they can feel so disconnected and so ‘not together’.  Let me relieve you of that unnecessary stress.

{In Pursuit} is not a place for perfectionism. Instead it’s a safe place where we can grow in our pursuit of God and the abundant life He has for us. It’s a place where we can share ideas, tips, tricks, and life. It is also a place where we can encourage each other through the gritty stuff. You know, the stuff that tests our faith.

When you come here, I want you to know that I am a real person, who endures real hardship and suffering.Yet I’ve learned to choose joy and peace, rather than bitterness and discontentment. I’ve learned to choose faith, trust, and hope in God, rather than fear, unbelief, and disappointment.

And you can choose the same.

As a gift to you, here’s a copy of our {Promises of God} Provision, memory verse cards. Simply click on the link below.

Scripture Memory Verses on God's Provision

Scripture Memory Verses on God’s Provision,

I pray they would be a source of encouragement for your family. I pray that faith would arise in your spirit as you begin to record God’s truths in your heart. I pray that every time the enemy speaks his lies into your mind, that you would choose joy and choose to replace that negative thought with a promise from God’s word.

I pray for a supernatural breakthrough over your life. May your financial house be put in order as you walk in obedience and trust in Jehovah Jireh, your Provider.

Believing with you (and filled to the brim with expectancy!!),
