I hope you’re ready for the ride, because it’s going to be filled with encouragement, insight, and God-inspired wisdom.

Years ago while jogging with my then fiancé, I remember being upset that I had to exercise. In my immaturity, I looked around at girls my age (23 at the time) and I was frustrated that they could eat what they wanted to while I had to be out there jogging in order to maintain my weight. The struggle with weight for me was real. Up. Down. Up. Down. Up. Down. I remember a moment of insight into my life while jogging that day. “You know, I don’t even think the point is weight loss. I think God is trying to teach me discipline.”

And I tucked that revelation away. Many years passed before I found it again hidden on the dusty, forgotten shelves of my soul. I’ve spent the last seven years making dramatic changes. Some I’ve cried through. Others came and went so easily, I regretted not having made them sooner. But, all of them have required discipline. One step in front of the other. One day at a time. Faithfulness repeated again and again until habits, attitudes, manners, customs, desires, appetites, endeavors, and all pursuits change. Less of me and hope-fully, God-willing, Spirit-empowering… more and more of Christ.

I was frustrated by what I felt was ‘unfair’. God was concerned with what was eternal. He wanted to grow me, to mature me, to strengthen me for the life-long journey ahead.

That’s today’s invitation. Won’t you join me?

Book Club Thursdays  Will Run:

For 16 weeks, on Thursdays, June 1st, 2017 – September 28th, 2017. Though you’re welcome to read through the book at your own pace, I’ve found that taking a week for each chapter provides me sufficient time to chew the information slowly, pray about it, and seek God’s direction for my life.

I’ll post about the chapters for the week and open up the discussion in the comments.
