Encouragement For Today: Our Pursuit Takes Us Back To Jesus

I shared this with a group of mamas in our ’31 Days {In Pursuit} Of Your Child’s Heart’ group. I thought it would encourage others in their own pursuits.

“I wanted to jump in quick to remind you that this pursuit is not about perfection. It’s not about guilt trips and standards that are so high they are unreachable.

Instead, it’s about an ideal… what we desire based on the instruction and promises of God’s word. Instead, it’s about a desire to honor God with the stewardship of the children He’s placed in our care.

And you know, some days it’s hard. Some days I don’t have it in me to look for holiness in my every-day-ordinary. Some days I don’t want to ask for forgiveness. Some days I’m so tired, frustrated, and grumpy I don’t feel like pursuing anything.

But that’s the whole point of what I write about. It’s the drive behind what I share. It’s my way of binding God’s truth in front me and reminding myself that what God asks of me will reap rewards far greater than any selfish whining and complaining session.

In Pursuit is about not giving up when things don’t look the way you’d want them to.
It’s about not throwing in the towel when life smacks you upside your head.
It’s about not losing hope when things around you look bleak.
It’s about not giving up on the abundant life God promises simply because in our own strength, we can’t make anything happen.

Our pursuit causes us to lean into God, to hold fast to His word and His promises. To move in Him, because outside and apart from Him we can’t do anything. Our pursuit humbles us. It reminds us of our limitations. Our weaknesses flash brightly before us and we have no alternative but to surrender to God’s consuming love and grace because in our weakness God is made strong. God is lifted high. God is exalted. God gets the glory.

This morning, if you’re feeling a bit down and discouraged, and if you’re feeling like this pursuit is too much to handle… then we’re in the right place.

We are exactly where we need to be.
At the feet of Jesus. Needing Him. Wanting Him. Seeking Him. Desiring Him to be center.

Yeah, mamas. I probably should have warned you that the pursuit of our children’s hearts takes us straight to our own hearts. Don’t be afraid to dwell here a bit. For out of the abundance of what’s in your heart, you will speak, you will outpour, you will influence.

Rest in Jesus. His strength, grace, and love is available for you today. He is glorified in our weaknesses. Our pursuit takes us back to Jesus!

Sending my love and prayers,
