Entrusted, God Meets You In “This” Place

20170326_183723

About six weeks ago I began Beth Moore’s Bible study, Entrusted. I opened the study with both excitement and a sense of urgency. We were immediately introduced to Paul’s vulnerable heart, and his faithful words to Timothy, his “beloved son”. The challenge was laid before us. We set out with an “enormous goal”–to be “mighty servants of  God turned loose on this globe in the great name of Jesus.” Beth reminded us we’ve been “entrusted with the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ and the gifting to share it.”

I closed the day’s study with a clear sense of “now time“. I purposed to set myself apart for the next six weeks in search of answers and clear direction for this season in my life. Positioning myself with eyes, ears, and heart wide open to hear from the Holy Spirit I asked questions like: What does being entrusted with the gospel and the gifting to share it look like for me today? What does it look like through this season in my life? What non-negotiable is God asking of me? What needs to go? What needs to stay? What is God speaking?

The very next day life changed. My mission was challenged.

I’ll spare you the details because that’s not what’s important. I’ll skip past the events, the hurt, the unexpected obstacles and confrontations, and I’ll fast forward to the spot where the weight of it all threatened to consume me. I’ll skip to that part because our stories vary, but “this” place, I’m certain, you can relate to. It’s the place where we think the best response is to throw our hands up in surrender, wave the white flag to the enemy, sit in a dark corner, and just shut up.

It’s the place where the enemy shouts, Give it up already. All your time, all your energy, all the seeds you’ve sown… what a joke. It’s a waste. You’ll never see that harvest. Look around, girl. Pathetic. This is how your story ends. You will never taste the goodness you’ve worked so hard for!

But God, who is so faithful, so very present in our time of trouble, He speaks forth truth into the deepest places of our soul.

God, who ordained our lives, and the good works for us to walk in…

God, who created the master plan for our days…

God, who knows us intimately…

God, who knows the motives of our heart…

God, who knows what He’s asked of us in the secret places…

God.

He speaks forth truth so fierce, so forceful yet gentle, so filled with passionate love. His holy influence over our souls cuts through the deception and lies of the enemy. It pulls out of us what’s been deposited in the obscure places, in the unseen spaces.

He battles for us, ya’ll. He truly steps in, and fights on our behalf. He moves us to live forward into the calling given us.

Truth resounds and somewhere in the fight, we’re reminded not to waver in our hope.

Hold fast to the hope that’s been given to you. Close your heart and ears to the lies of the deceiver. I am sovereign and in control of all the details in your life. Look to Me. Hear My truth. Follow my instruction. In your pain, I am here. I am present. In your discouragement and hurt, I am comforter. In your disappointment, I am hope. In your questions, I am the answer. In your rejection, I am love.

God’s words flow over the deep, cavernous places, and His “bigness” fills us. He is more than enough!

I’ve spent six weeks immersed in the book of 2 Timothy. I’ve walked with a tender heart coupled with great hope and anticipation that God, who entrusted me with the gospel and the gifting to share that message, is over every single detail of my life. I’ve sat at the feet of Jesus and under the teaching of His apostle Paul, with great vulnerability. I’ve latched on to truth and life-giving words. There have been too many salving words to share in detail.

But, here’s a little of that balm to encourage you in “this” place. Quiet the voice of the enemy, and listen to the beauty, truth, and goodness found between the pages of 2 Timothy.

“Stir up the gift of God which is in you…”

“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

“Do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began…”

“For this reason I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.”

“Hold fast to the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.”

“That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in you.”

Yeah, God meets us in “this” place, and no assignment of the enemy over our lives can prevail.

He meets us in “this” place, and no lie of the deceiver can withstand His truth.

He meets us in “this” place, and the chaos around cannot disorder our heart and mind. We are whole in Christ!

He meets us in “this” place, and works in us both to will and to do according to His great pleasure (Phil. 2:13).

Be encouraged my friend. Walk in the fullness of God’s love.

Be assured, the Lord meets us in “this” place, and stands with us and strengthens us so that the message might be preached fully through us (2 Tim. 4:17). His kingdom will advance!
