Inexpensive Organization {With Expedit Shelving Units}

Organzing with cubes

Organization does not have to be costly. As a matter of fact, if you look for creative ways to use what you already have, it is pretty inexpensive.

Reuse Shelving, Tables, & Bookcases

Look around at what you already have. Is there a shelf, table, or bookcase that isn’t functioning well in its current location? Get creative. I took two Ikea EXPEDIT shelving units I found in two different rooms to make this piece.

(The 8-cube one sells for $89.99 and the 4-cube one sells for $49.99.)

Give them a good dusting and polish. Then try them out in the new location.

Baskets, Containers, & Magazine Holders

I decided to keep this space looking clean and neat by concealing items in boxes, containers, and magazine holders. Using items I already had, I filled in the cubes until I found a look I was happy with:

Endless possibilities

Organizing with cubes is so versatile. Flip them, hang them, or stack them up. (Check Ikea for some great ideas.) Not only are these shelving units functional, but they amazingly hold so much.

Some ideas to get your started:

  • as a buffet in your dining room
  • add baskets and turn it into a dresser
  • as a display and showcase your items
  • as a bookshelf
  • in your office (hold all your supplies/binders/paperwork)
  • create a display in your bathroom holding towels, supplies, toilet paper in pretty baskets
  • hold your collections
  • get creative!

Alright, now you know how I do it. How about you? What tools do you use for organizing?
