Preparing For The New Year

One of my favorite end of year practices is reflection. Blank pages coupled with expectation, anticipation, and God-dreams have become my favorite way to end the year!

Count Your Blessings

Something happens in our disposition when we look for the blessings in our lives. I’m not just talking about financial blessings (although, you’re welcome to count those, too!). I’m talking about the dark-and-broken-places blessings. The God-moments that occur when grace and brokenness intersect. Yeah, look for those and count them. Write them down. Each one set up as a monument of God’s faithfulness in your life.

Without God’s direction, our plans our futile. Resolutions and goals fail, and good intentions fall by the wayside. It is God who works in us both to will and to do according to His good pleasure (Phil. 2:13). Starting this journey without Him is pointless. We need Him. He has the answers to our questions. He has the solutions to our problems. He has the wisdom and knowledge for our journey. We’d do good to begin on our knees with humility and teachable hearts.

Dare To Dream

Dare to be real with yourself. Be honest with where you’re at. Take a good look at your life and choose to break ties with self-sabatoging habits. Learn from your past and move forward with intentionality and focus. Dare to dream. Dare to believe life can look different. Dig deep and pull out those dreams you’ve been hiding out of fear.

Pray (again)

Yeah, I know. We’ve talked about this already. Except that once you’ve listened for direction and once you’ve charted the course, our prayers then become prayers of thanksgiving, praise, and bold declaration. Take your plans to the Lord, in faith, believing He will establish the work of your hands.

Yeah, blank pages coupled with expectation, anticipation, and God-dreams…it’s one of the best ways to end the year!
