Beauty In The Process

Process

She wants so badly to please God.

Wanting to do great feats for His kingdom, desire and dreams swarm deep inside, willing her to move, causing her to lose all concept of today. Tomorrow is what she hopes for. Tomorrow is what she anticipates holding in her arms. She yearns and craves for that which is beyond her grasp– the ache so great, she can barely stand it.

Here’s the thing, in all her pursuing and all her striving she forgot the dreams of tomorrow are set into motion by the choices of today. Those dreams, seemingly suspended out in space somewhere, are comprised of every-day-moments strung along our journey.

It makes sense then to slow down a bit, to understand that ‘there’ isn’t going anywhere. Yet ‘there’ will look a lot different depending on the choices we make ‘here’.

Slow. Down. A. Bit. Take time to ponder the path of your feet (Proverbs 4:26). Take time to quiet the noise.

Sometimes the dreams and desires are so big we forget the work required today. Before the harvest comes the plowing of the land and the planting of the seed. Before the high places comes the hard process, the molding of our character.

She wants so badly to please God. She wants so badly to do great feats for His kingdom…

She’s reminded great feats begin with great humility. They require bending down low and trusting her times are in God’s hand. She’s reminded that to hold a high calling without attaining the character necessary to carry it through is futile. Pointless. Worthless.

In God’s presence she surrenders her dreams, her pursuits, and endeavors. She leans in and trusts His leading. She quiets the noise and leans close until the rhythm of her feet move to the beat of His heart.

All of a sudden, fear and anxiety for tomorrow melt in the purposeful anticipation found today.

All of a sudden, frustration turns to fruitfulness as she plants seeds of faith today.

All of a sudden, striving ceases and daily surrender becomes a way of life.

All of a sudden, dreaming looks a whole lot like living out God’s purposes today.

She wants so badly to please God. She wants so badly to do great feats for His kingdom.

And so, she loves Him greatly in all her choices today; her confidence in knowing that her tomorrows are all in His hands. There’s beauty in the process!

  1. Hi Darlene,
I love that: “She leans in and trusts His leading. She quiets the noise and leans close until the rhythm of her feet move to the beat of His heart”. Thank you for this sweet and gentle reminder, it was salve to my soul. (I’m glad we’re neighbors over at Meredith’s today).

    • Faith To Shine, I’m so glad you stopped by. I know what you mean about this whole ‘salve to the soul’. I’ve been on those dry and weary journeys and it’s been God’s words that has breathed life back into these weary bones 🙂

  2. Love this, Darlene! And I see beautiful implications from a certain book I started reading to my girl and boy the past two nights. 😉 This says it all so well, “in all her pursuing and all her striving she forgot the dreams of tomorrow are set into motion by the choices of today.” Yes. All those choices I’ve made. And the ones I am making now…thank you for this beautiful reminder. Love you and your heart and your words. I’m just ready to give you a real life hug. xoxo

    • Meredith, wait until you start going through the big girl version. It’s as though I was hearing my life story for the past years and it’s beautiful. Absolutely breathtaking what God is able to do when we yield to Him. For 5 years now, I’ve had to declare that ‘here’ is just as important there! Sometimes, I didn’t believe it myself. Oh, but as we continue to trust in God’s faithfulness and goodness over our lives, we’re able to see that He truly does work it all out for our good and His glory! <3

    Hi Darlene!

Thanks so much for this! I needed to be reminded today to slow down, ponder the path of my feet and quiet the noise. I forgot that it is a process…..and that the process is so necessary. I want to embrace the beauty in the process,

    Big Hug to You!!
