Shine Brightly For Christ!

She finishes her Math work, walks to the shelf, grabs the Language Arts workbooks, and moves on without anyone telling her to. She works quickly and diligently. She’s focused.

“Wow, sweetie, you’re on FiiiiiRE today!”

She looks at me and smiles, “I really want to be done on time today!”

Finishing her Language Arts, she heads to the shelf for Science and History. On we move. The day is stress-free. It’s organic. It flows. And I wonder why it can’t be like this every day.

The next day, not so much. She went back to slow. She went back to distractions.

“What happened to the fire you had going on yesterday? It’s like your fire died out.”

She finishes her Math problems, “I just got a little spark mom.”

I laughed. I know the feeling well. Some days it’s like I’m on fire, getting things done and moving along my day effortlessly. Other days… not so much. Other days it feels like I’m moving through the day with my light flickering, threatening to be put out by the challenges around me.

Those days I’m praying God be made strong in my weakness. Those days, I’m praying God would burn a fire in my soul. I’m praying He would take this little spark and cause me to shine brightly for His glory. Those days I’m certain if it’s not for the power of the Holy Spirit, I’d fizzle out like many who’ve gone before me.

Matthew 5 reminds me, “You are the light of the world. a city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they take a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand. And it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

And so, on difficult, tiring, and exhausting days, I take my flickering light and I put it on the lamp stand. I believe the oxygen of God’s breath of life can and will cause that fire to burn. Continuously. To Him. By Him. For Him.

Shine brightly where God places you. Shine brightly even when all you’ve got left is a little spark. Bring that little spark to Jesus. Watch Him fan that flame into a fire that will bring light to all who you come in contact with. When you do, God gets all the glory. Go ahead. Shine brightly for Christ!
