{What Have You Done With 2012?}

I was out of town this past weekend. Boy did I need that time away. There have been so many things circling round and round in my head and I needed that time to just sort through. Ever been there?

When I stop to look at my life. At the life that no one sees, many don’t know about… the one that expects me to show up each morning, demanding every ounce of my attention… that’s when I am reminded that my steps must be ordered by the Lord. Otherwise, I’d spend so much time on things which are of no substance. Imagine that.

I just celebrated my 31st birthday. Imagine reaching 50 only to find that you’ve squandered your life because your focus was on the good thing rather than the God thing.

And so, as I tend to do so often, I whisper my prayer to the Lord…

’Order my steps Lord. Give me wisdom and courage to line myself up to Your will, not mine, and then to follow thru.”

I love that about God. He’s patient with me. He knows how I am analytical. I thrive when I have the step by step procedure. I find peace in knowing the end from the beginning.

And that was it.

That’s what made the difference.

I looked at the end from the beginning.

I imagined me standing before the Lord at the end of 2012. I imagined having to give account for the time that He has blessed me with. And then I imagined what my response would be…

I imagined what I wanted my response to be.

“Lord, in 2012- this is how I spent the days you’ve blessed me with ….”

And so, I sat down and I worked on my life goals again. I looked at the important things in my life… The things that one-day-at-a-time add up, one by one, until days become weeks, weeks become months, and months lead up to a new year.

Those things are the things that matter. My today. My now moments. They matter. He cares about those things. I cannot tell you how much this time in His Presence helped to clear up all the clutter in my head. All of a sudden I wasn’t overwhelmed with the demands life places on me. Instead, I felt encouraged, refreshed, and excited about the next 7 months of this year.

I challenge you to look at the end from the beginning. On December 31st of this year, before the clock strikes 12 midnight, what do you want to tell the Lord about your year?

I don’t know about you, but I desire for God to look at my every day without me being ashamed about wasted and squandered time. I desire to use every single day of my life to bless my family, encourage and minister to the broken, and glorify God in the process.

So if it’s been a while since you looked at your own life goals… I challenge you to get into your prayer closet and ask God to order your steps. You will be amazed at how this time in his Presence changes everything. He truly does lead us and guide us… when and if, we allow Him to.
